Got up early Saturday morning to wash 1,800 miles, 3 1/2 days and five states worth of bugs off the front of Cruella. The bug and tar remover actually worked! Then, it was just a short 2 1/2 drive from my sister's house south of Omaha to Des Moines.
Got to the meet-up place a little early, then the fleet of Cadillacs (plus Jesda's Infiniti) pulled in. Jesda demonstrated the wicked sound of his Q's straight pipe exhaust and did an impromptu road course demonstration in the former Target parking lot without the benefit of pylons. Too far away to capture with the camera, unfortunately.
Once everybody arrived, we made a caravan over to Porky's Diner. Jesda raced ahead and blocked traffic so we could all turn left into Porky's. Not sure how many people flipped him the bird, but it was at least a few. Porky's believes in large portions. Each lunch could probably feed a family of four for a week.
Porky's hosts a cruise-in every Saturday, and we were treated to a great show. There are a lot of nice classics in Des Moines, and it seems like most of them come to Porky's. They were parking two cars deep by the time we left.
Dinner at Latin King was amazing, even the shot glass of pasta Kael and I got with our Chicken Spiedini (possibly some of the best chicken I've ever had). Great service, too. They put up with a loud bunch of Caddy guys. I didn't take a picture of my bill, but I saw the picture Jesda took of his. Those gin and tonics add up (in more ways than one, right?).
All in all, the meet was well worth the 3 1/2 day drive. I had a blast.

After seeing JRau's spotless engine bay, Brian spiffed up the 350 in his Brougham. Not bad for a quickie detail job. |
