We took advantage of a beautiful summer Sunday afternoon to cruise down the Historic Columbia River Highway (U.S. 30), which parallels Interstate 84 east of Portland. After driving from Troutdale to Cascade Locks—with a stop for ice cream—we crossed the river to view the Columbia River Gorge from the Washington side.
