Cadillac Owners.com First National Meet
Des Moines, Iowa — May 18-20, 2007

gdwriter's Road Trip Photo Journal

I drove, Cruella, my '91 Cadillac Sedan de Ville a total of 3,982 miles from Oregon to Iowa and back for the Cadillac Owners.com meet. Despite her age and high mileage (228,545 at the start of the trip, 232,527 when we got home), Cruella performed flawlessly. I added half a quart of oil (Valvoline MaxLife) in Sidney, NE, then the rest of the bottle in Twin Falls, ID. Even with the A/C on most of the time, the cruise set at 75 MPH, and crossing several mountain passes, she averaged in the low 20s. Actual mileage and the amount spent on gas came within 3% of my original estimate.

The meet itself was a blast. I enjoyed meeting in person some of the friends I've made online, making friends with the other guys who came and hanging out with people who love cars as much as I do. It was great seeing all the other Caddies, both new and old. The food was fantastic, and even though I had the highest score, I had fun on the golf course, too.

Special thanks go to my Dad, who joined me on the trip, despite some doubts ("Do you think it will make it?") and for buying at least a tank of gas each day. Thanks also to everybody who complimented my car and my dog. Hoover's an excellent road tripper, and I think he had as much fun as I did.

I bought a new digital camera (a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S650) just before the trip and gave it quite a workout--taking pictures along the way, at some of our stops, and of course, at the meet. Enjoy the pictures from each day, and please sign the guestbook.
